Vernon School District trustees have frozen their wages.
For the second year in a row, trustees have approved a zero increase for their indemnity.
“Unless our employees get a raise, we will not take one either,” said Bill Turanski, chairperson.
Government policies have led to unionized employees not receiving a wage increase.
The chairperson receives $13,600 a year while there is $12,100 for the vice-chairperson and $10,600 each for the trustees.
Budget process underway
The Vernon School District will start working on details of the 2013/14 budget in January.
“Ideally, we want to come to the board with a proposed budget for adoption in late April,” said Randy Hoffman, secretary-treasurer.
The district has also recently received recalculated grants information from the Ministry of Education. It appears that 2012/13 funding is unchanged.
“We’ve been used to surprises at this time of the year,” said Hoffman.
“Is there something that will be done that hints at what will happen next year, there are no hints.”
