Search crews locate hunter

Lake Country man found near his vehicle in the area of Wilma Lake

Updated: A missing Lake Country hunter has been located.

The search for Tracy De Montezuma, 52, who had been missing since Sept. 29, ended at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

His remains were located by Search and Rescue a short distance from where he had left his vehicle in the general vicinity of Wilma Lake.

A cause of death has not been released at this time.

Search and Rescue crews haven’t given up hope as they continue to scour the Aberdeen Plateau for a missing hunter.

A 52-year-old Lake Country man went on an evening hunting trip Saturday in the Wilma Lake area, but has not yet returned. His vehicle was found in the area, but the man remains missing.

“They’re still up there searching,” said Leigh Pearson with Vernon Search and Rescue, which is assisting in the search.

Along with an RCMP helicopter and two Police Service dogs, the search includes more than 40 search and rescue members.

“They’ve got crews from all over the place, including volunteers from as far away as Princeton,” said Pearson.

“But so far, nothing.”

The difficulty crews are encountering is the large area.

“It’s just a huge area to cover,” said Pearson. “The Aberdeen Plateau is just a maze of roads which can sometimes help and sometimes hinder a search.”

This is the first multi-day search Vernon crews have been on this year, but they are optimistic.

“We haven’t given up hope, even though this is day five,” Pearson said Thursday.
