At 95, Rosalie Worbets is adding one more item to her bucket list.

The Vernon senior is determined to see the Okanagan Rail Trail completed in time for her to walk it. In order for this to happen, she’s donating her age in metres to the fundraising efforts, and she’s challenging other seniors to do so as well.

“Let’s get going. It’s time to build,” said Worbets, who calls the corridor from Coldstream to Kelowna a “health and wellness trail.”

The engineered, compacted trail surface will create a rideable and walkable surface suitable for bikes, wheelchairs and strollers.

“The trail is an asset expected to bring in $6.7 to $10 million annually to local economies,” said Debbie Clarke, with the Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative.

“There is much enthusiasm to see the trail completed and so fundraising initiatives have sprung from all sectors of the community. Recreational groups are organizing fundraisers, private donors and businesses are stepping forward with matching funds campaigns and individuals are contributing.”

The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative is attempting to raise $7.8 million.

For more information on how to donate, go to www.okanaganrailtrail.ca or contact the Community Foundation of North Okanagan at 250-542-8677 or the Central Okanagan Foundation at 250-861-6160.
