Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire Okanagan, Similkameen, Shuswap and other parts of the B.C. Interior for Sunday, May 21.
The alert was issued just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” says the alert.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year, said Environment Canada.
Environment Canada lifted the thunderstorm warning that was issued earlier Saturday, as the weather pattern had moved through the region. However, South Okanagan experienced thunderstorms throughout the day and night which included heavy rainfall.
Continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
