Suspect taken into custody after a man died from a shooting in Penticton was released

Penticton RCMP say the man involved in Wednesday’s fatal shooting at a Creston Avenue apartment has been released without charges.

“This was an isolated event and not a random act because both parties were known to each other,” said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth of the Penticton RCMP. “We do not feel the public is at risk. All of our police resources remain fully engaged in this ongoing investigation.

“Members of the Penticton RCMP serious crime unit, general investigation section, targeted enforcement and forensic identification sections continue to investigate the matter.”

RCMP were called to a residence at 998 Creston Ave., near Comox Street, at about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for shots being fired at the residence.

“Upon attending, we found one adult male deceased and on suspect was taken into custody,” said Wrigglesworth. “Our serious crimes unit and forensic identification units as well as other units of Penticton RCMP are on scene collecting evidence,” said Wrigglesworth.

One resident of the building watched a man collapse in a heap on the ground and went to attend to him. He gave him a towel to try and stop the bleeding that was coming from his stomach area and said the man began gasping for air and died of his injuries before the paramedics arrived.
