There are efforts underway to improve access to the Shuswap River in Enderby.

The future of a Shuswap River access hasn’t been determined.

The Enderby and District Services Commission will not award a tender for the Belvidere hand launch and will consider a design/build approach for the project.

“We will see what we can get done,” said director Brad Case.

A project cost of $40,569 was originally targeted but when bids came in from contractors, they were $120,016 and $85,423.

City of Enderby staff will now ask contractors to submit a plan for designing the hand launch upgrade based on commission objectives — increasing the launch area, cleaning debris and improving accessibility.

The new price tag is estimated at $45,000 based on provincial environmental monitoring and riparian planting.

Fee bylaw changes

Some groups could get a financial break when using the arena in Enderby.

The Enderby and District Services Commission is recommending to city council that a rate be established for school groups.

“Currently, the only arena fee for schools included in the parks, recreation and culture fees bylaw is for the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District, in which the fees are determined per a joint use agreement,” said Jennifer Bellamy, chief financial officer, in a report.

“In order to provide an affordable rate for other school groups, staff recommend adding a school group rate for schools not covered under a joint use agreement.”

The rate would be $46 an hour.
