It’s unknown if the latest heat wave is the cause of a Vernon sidewalk heaving.

A portion of the walkway has buckled on 25th Avenue, in front of the Petro Canada gas station.

City crews have spray-painted the tripping hazard to alert walkers, but aren’t sure what the cause is.

Vernon completed its annual sidewalk inspection Friday, May 12, and noted the heave and have it scheduled for repair.

“The cause is unknown,” said communications officer Josh Winquist.

Several sidewalks shifted in June 2021 during the heat dome.
