Vernon firefighters were called to a small debris fire in the 3400 block of 32nd Street early Thursday morning.

The cause of a small debris fire is not known in downtown Vernon.

Firefighters were called to the 3400 block of 32nd Street at about 3:20 a.m. Thursday. Once there, they found a small pile of paper on fire on the sidewalk.

"It was basically out," said Jack Blair, deputy fire chief.

"We're not sure what happened. it's a strange time for something like this to be happening.,"

The fire was next to a building, but Blair doesn't believe it posed a significant threat.

"The amount of paper involved shouldn't have started anything," he said.
