Residents and elected officials are calling for action because of high speed along Enderby-Mabel Lake Road

There are growing demands to put the brakes on speeders in a rural area.

Director Herman Halvorson says he is receiving numerous complaints from residents about motorists exceeding the 80-kilometre-an-hour speed limit on Enderby-Mabel Lake Road.

“Someone is going to get killed,” he said.

“It’s like the Indy 500 out there.”

Speeding occurs along the entire length of the road from Enderby east to Kingfisher, but the most significant problems, according to Halvorson, are in the Mabel Lake Resort area.

“Around the resort, it’s busy and there are a lot of vehicles - even quads and golf carts,” he said.

“A lot of people walk along that road.”

Out of frustration, some residents posted homemade signs urging motorists to slow down. However, they didn’t last long.

“They were removed by the Ministry of Transportation because the signs were not allowed,” said Halvorson, who is demanding that the ministry take action.

“I’d like the ministry to put restrictions on speed in some areas along the road. We need to be proactive before someone gets hurt.”
