UPDATE: Standoff ends with one arrest

Update 9:00 p.m.

Armed standoff in Salmon Arm has ended. RCMP have removed police tape and residents are now allowed back in their homes.

Neighbours say there has been a heavy police presence in the neighbourhood over the past couple of days.

Situation involved occupants of a rental home. Neighbours don’t seem to know anything about them.

Police and ERT team still at the house in question.

Update 8:35

A police standoff situation that began late this afternoon continues. Two loud bangs have been heard.

An unmarked pickup truck has been permitted to cross police lines and ERT team members with guns drawn are visible.

Police have called the situation “very dangerous.”

Police were reportedly tipped off that a person they were looking for was in the area.

One person has reportedly been taken into custody in the area of 16th Street and 11th Avenue NE Salmon Arm.

Police had cordoned off the area, evacuating 14 residents, who said they had been out of their homes for about two hours.

The ERT (Emergency Response Team) team is on scene and two ambulances are on standby.
