Its return was a roaring success.

The Sun Valley Cruise-In weekend was a hit with both show car owners and attendees, drawing great crowds in spite of a dismal weather forecast and threatening skies throughout the weekend.

The Cruise-In ran for 13 years before taking a break due to volunteer fatigue.

“The overwhelming positive response from all involved will just guarantee that the event is back with a vengeance, and will continue to be a regular annual event to highlight on the calendar,” said Cruise-In spokesperson Andy Freeland.

The clouds parted on Friday night and the sun shone off the shiny chrome provided by the amazing collection of cars within the downtown.

“The DVA (Downtown Vernon Association) estimates that the crowd bulged to 5,000 to view all the well-polished vehicles,” said Freeland.

The Cruise-In continued Saturday with nearly 400 vehicles from the Okanagan and Western Canada gathered in Polson Park for a feast of the eyes of stunning cars, trucks and motorcycles.

“The volunteer organizers would like to give a sincere thanks to the members of the Sun Valley Cruisers, the Drifters, and all those that gave a helping hand, and of course our special sponsors,” said Freeland.

Special sponsors included Watkin Motors, Sussex Insurance, Kiss-FM, 3T Mechanical, Sladon Moore, 3% Realty, Haus of Kustoms, De Vine Vintners, Skogie’s Car Wash, Let’s Go Transportation, Talon Benefits Consulting, Castle Cheese, Lumby Tirecraft, Gilbert’s Parts Depot, Home Hardware, Fisher’s Hardware, Uncle Dave’s Pizza, Let’s Go Transportation, Kal Tire.
