The man accused in an alleged domestic assault in downtown Vernon has been remanded in custody.

Gerry Coble, 53, will make his next appearance in Vernon Provincial Court Wednesday by video.

Coble is facing assault, aggravated assault, breach and weapon charges.

Vernon RCMP responded to an alleged domestic assault incident in the 2900 block of 29th Street Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

A 22-year-old woman, with injuries to her face, head and neck, was taken away on a stretcher. RCMP later caught up with a suspect at a Vernon residence, but a hostage negotiator was called in to get the suspect to come out of his home.

The situation was resolved peacefully and the suspect exited the residence brandishing a broom that mimicked a rifle.
