Suspect may be linked to multiple robberies in Vernon

Information being sought on incidents at HSBC, VantageOne and Bank of Montreal

The search continues for a suspect in three Vernon bank heists.

RCMP believe the individual who robbed the 30th Avenue HSBC Tuesday may also be linked to similar incidents at the 25th Avenue VantageOne Dec. 20 and the 32nd Street Bank of Montreal June 9.

“Officers have received a few calls and they are following up on everything that comes in,” said Gord Molendyk, detachment spokesperson.

On Tuesday at about 2:30 p.m., a lone male entered the HSBC, approached a teller and demanded cash.

The suspect, who did not produce a weapon,  left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The police began to link the robberies after Tuesday’s theft.

“It’s primarily surveillance photos that have led us to believe this and the descriptions,” said Molendyk.

The suspect has been described as a Caucasian male in his late teens or early 20s, who is about six feet tall and 150 to 160 pounds and clean shaven.

Anyone who has information regarding the identity of this individual is asked to call the RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

With three banks already targeted, the police aren’t sure if there may be more incidents.

“Until an individual is arrested, financial institutions should be vigilant but they should be vigilant every day,” said Molendyk.
