Taylor collects second NAIG gold

Armstrong’s Jacob Taylor dominates men’s 16U javelin field, winning gold by almost 18 metres

The stats show a field of 15 in the men’s 16U javelin competition at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto/Hamilton.

But, really, Armstrong’s Jacob Taylor was in a class of his own.

Taylor, a Pleasant Valley Secondary School student, and Okanagan Indian Band member, won his second gold medal of the games, dominating the javelin with a winning toss of 57.23 metres.

Nova Scotia’s Dylan Francis took silver with a toss of 40.55 metres.

Taylor, who also won gold in the discus, nearly added a third medal. He was on the B.C. 16U 4 x 400 relay team which finished fourth.

OKIB and Okanagan nation athletes won bronze medals in lacrosse.

Stephane Richard and Joshua Dubrett helped B.C. finish third in the men’s 19U division, beating Eastern Door and the North 9-4.

Kiana Point and Reece Jones were part of B.C.’s 19U team which dumped Saskatchewan 10-3 for bronze.

Ethan Joe missed out on a medal in 19U men’s softball, as B.C. dropped the bronze-medal game, 12-5, to Saskatchewan.

In 16U men’s softball, Nakoda Parker and Sapion Joe helped B.C. finish fifth, beating Eastern Door and the North 13-8 in their final game of the competition.

Floria Lizotte and Team B.C. were playing for bronze in women’s 19U volleyball Saturday. B.C. was taking on Ontario.

Entering the final weekend of competition, Team B.C. had won 181 medals: 67 gold, 60 silver, 54 bronze.

Team B.C. is made up of 545 athletes and coaches.
