A local teenager is recovering from hypothermia after spending a chilly night outside.

The 13-year-old girl was last seen at about 4 p.m. near Parker’s Cove on Westside Road Tuesday and the Vernon Search and Rescue unit was called to the scene at 8 p.m.

Twenty-four Members responded and began searching the area on foot and in vehicles. Due to dropping temperatures, the Central Okanagan and Shuswap Search and Rescue groups were called in to assist with search.

The girl was dressed in only jeans, a T-shirt and hoody.

The girl was located at 2 a.m. and because she was hypothermic, she treated on scene by Search and Rescue personnel and transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by the ambulance service.
