Following negative backlash, the City of Revelstoke has decided to reverse their decision to cancel the Canada Day Parade just a day ago, now saying ‘the parade will go on’.
“Thanks for your feedback!” said the City of Revelstoke in a post on their Facebook page.
On June 13, the city took to Facebook to announce the parade’s cancellation, citing construction on Mackenzie Ave. and First St. as the reason for the decision.
Immediately, residents voiced their frustrations with the cancellation and urged the city to look for an alternate route.
This afternoon (June 14), the City of Revelstoke Parks and Recreation Department made a post on Facebook letting the community know that the parade is back on, and that they are actively searching for those who wish to participate.
The City of Revelstoke also added that they will update the public once they determine the alternate route the parade will take, as the route on First St. and Mackenzie Ave. is still unusable.
