An alert citizen thought it was kind of strange to see half-a-dozen people loading a hot tub into a pickup truck at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The person told Vernon RCMP that the six people were loading a hot tub from the yard of a business in the 2900 block of 41st Avenue on to a truck that was parked outside of the yard on 31st Street.
“Police attended and located two people in the truck, and a third walking back to a shed at the corner of the property,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
“Three people were arrested in the shed.”
In all, five people were arrested for, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property. Three men and two women, all from the Vernon area, between the ages of 20 to 40 years, are expected to face charges at a later date as the investigation is still continuing.
There had been two previous unsuccessful attempts to remove a hot tub from the business since Oct. 1.
“We want to thank the observant citizen who promptly called the police when they noticed the suspicious activity taking place in the area,” said Molendyk.
“Police ask all residents of Vernon and the North Okanagan to report any suspicious activity you see take place in the area you live or work in.”
