The clock may start ticking for people speaking to their elected representatives.
Director Rob Sawatzky wants the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee to determine if there is a policy on how long delegations can present for and if there isn’t a firm policy, if there is a need for one.
“Some delegations have been lengthy and unfocused and taken up meeting time,” he said.
“I am just wondering if we need a policy to make meetings more functional.”
The Regional District of North Okanagan website states that delegations have 10 minutes to make presentations. However, it isn’t uncommon for that to be surpassed.
Chairperson Mike Macnabb admits there have been challenges with public presentations, particularly when there are three or four on the same agenda.
“We could run the whole meeting with delegations,” he said, adding that prevents directors from dealing with other issues during the allotted time for the meeting.
While he supports refining the process, Macnabb admits being a firm timekeeper could infringe on an individual or group’s ability to get their message across.
