Traffic impacted with Highway 97 closure

A portion of Highway 97 just north of Kelowna will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday

Anyone heading south to Kelowna this weekend will want to be aware of traffic changes.

Highway 97, from Sexsmith/Old Vernon Road to Edwards Road in Kelowna, will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday while utilities work is conducted as part of the six-laning along this corridor.

For traffic heading south on Highway 97:

A detour will be in place directing traffic west onto Edwards Road, south on to Adams Road and east on Sexsmith Road.

For traffic heading north on Highway 97:

A detour will be in place directing traffic east on Old Vernon Road, north on Acland Road, and west on Edwards Road.

“Travellers are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations and are asked to drive with caution, follow all signs and watch for traffic control personnel,” states the Ministry of Transportation.

The work is being done to expand and upgrade over four kilometres of Highway 97 from Highway 33 to Edwards Road in Kelowna.
