Transit access to university campus expanded

Pressure is being eased on an extremely popular transit run.

From Feb. 12 to April 26, there will be two additional return trips daily on the route from Vernon to the University of B.C. campus in Kelowna.

“The UBCO service upgrade is an important addition to this valuable route, due to the ever increasing demand,” said Patrick Nicol, Regional District of North Okanagan chairperson.

The extra weekday runs leave Vernon at 9 a.m. and noon and return from UBCO at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The UBC connector was introduced in July 2008. Frequently, the bus is full and some students have been left on the roadside.

“The extra runs will benefit Vernon, as well as the other communities in the North Okanagan,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA.

Last month, a midday trip at 1 p.m. was added on the UBC route by cancelling the lesser used 6 p.m. run.
