Transit route sought

Coldstream is looking to expand bus service to Middleton Mountain

Transit service could eventually be picking up  Middleton Mountain residents.

Coldstream is working with B.C. Transit towards adding 2,000 transit hours for the implementation of the Middleton Mountain local transit network in March 2020.

The route would travel up 11th Avenue from Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon, then along Middleton Way, loop around Mt. Thor, Husband and Sunflower and then up College Way to Okanagan College.

“There is sufficient time to develop a funding model for the expanded service,” said Trevor Seibel, chief administrative officer, in a report.

“The expanded transit service would provide service to an identified area of the community that has requested service in the past.”

There could be an opportunity to cut costs and time, if needed, by removing the Mt. Thor loop, suggests Coun. Richard Enns.

“It’s probably a little bit more efficient for Coldstream and gives us the opportunity to make the route a little quicker,” said Enns, adding that the option could be added back in at a later time.

But Coun. Doug Dirk suggests that loop could be integral for a number of college students and others needed to access transit.

“That loop exposes far more properties,” said Dirk.
