It’s not known if an attempt to scare nuisance deer may have caused an Okanagan Landing fire.
A blaze at Tronson and Bella Vista roads Tuesday will officially be listed as undetermined.
“We can’t find any evidence of cigarettes or kids playing,” said Jack Blair, Vernon deputy fire chief.
There was a report of an explosion before the fire and neighbours say they have heard such noises before.
It’s possible the bang was related to a device to scare deer or bears.
“We are looking into this,” said Blair.
“We have found no remnants of the casing for the item.”
Blair points out that the devices — commonly known as bear-bangers — are not supposed to be used in long, dry grass.
Tuesday’s fire came close to a couple of homes but firefighters and neighbours were able to bring the blaze under control.
