UPDATE: Highway 1 reopened

A vehicle accident near the bottom of Kault Hill on Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm has been cleared.

Traffic was backed up for kilometers due to a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Trickle Inn on Monday Jan. 9.

Update 5:30 p.m.

Drive BC reports the motor vehicle accident which closed the Trans-Canada Highway 12 kilometres west of Salmon Arm has been cleared.

Witnesses say the accident was close to the Trickle Inn on Highway #1.

The highway was closed in both directions, with westbound traffic backed up well before Pierre's Point. Traffic is now moving very slowly.

One witness reports a person was trapped inside a vehicle so emergency personnel were doing an extraction.

Highway 1 is closed in both directions in Salmon Arm following a vehicle incident.

The road is closed 12 km west of Salmon Arm to Salmon Arm.

There is no detour available at this time.

An assessment is in progress and there is currently not an estimated time of opening.

It’s unclear how many vehicles were involved and if anyone was injured.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
