New pedestrian infrastructure has been unveiled in Vernon.
A sidewalk project on 25th Street has now been completed after the work began in May.
“The project was in response to resident concerns as the road is a major pedestrian and cycling corridor used by residents and students of Beairsto Elementary, W.L. Seaton Secondary, and Harwood and Silver Star schools,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, the city’s communications officer.
The $634,000 project included 1,370 metres of new sidewalk from 45th Avenue to Pleasant Valley Road, a new pedestrian activated flashing crosswalk at 43rd Avenue and 25th Street, two new crosswalks at 40th and 41st avenues, bike route signs and pavement markings on 25th Street from Pleasant Valley Road to 45th Avenue, and on 45th Avenue from 25th to 20th streets.
