Vernon’s Vasek Pospisil has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis event of 2014.

Pospisil, seeded 29^th, defeated unseeded Samuel Groth of Australia in straight sets Monday, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
