Business will wrap up early for Vernon’s current council.
The regular council meeting scheduled for Nov. 24 has been cancelled because it will fall after the Nov. 15 election, which will lead to a new mayor and council.
“This is becoming more common across the province,” said Will Pearce, chief administrative officer, of the outgoing council completing its business prior to the election.
Such a situation occurred in Vernon in 2011 but that was a decision of the then-mayor and not council as a whole.
The final meeting for the current council will be Nov. 10 and the inaugural meeting for the new council will be Dec. 1.
