Vernon council to approve, deny grants for April intake

A slew of Council Discretionary Grants (CDG) will be decided by Vernon council at their upcoming meeting on Monday, June 10. 

The CDG's are for the April intake, where 15 organizations/societies applied. The applications total $125,000 total, but the city has recommended just $52,130 in funds to be allocated.

According to the recommendation, the city will:

  • Deny a CDG to Archway Society for Domestic Peace of $10,000 due to "limited" funds.
  • Deny a CDG to North Okanagan Pipes and Dreams of $5,000 due to "limited" funds. 
  • Deny a CDG to the North Okanagan Valley Orchestra Society of $1,000 due to "limited" funds.
  • Deny a CDG to the Okanagan Screen Arts Society of $2,715 due to "limited" funds.
  • Approve a CDG to the Caetani Cultural Centre for $4,530 of the $12,500 requested to assist with "the expenses associated with the heritage assessment and statement of significance."
  • Approve a CDG to the Family Resource Centre for North Okanagan in the amount of $1,800 of the $3,800 requested to fund table, tent, chairs, banner, t-shirts and upgrade materials to hand out. 
  • Approve a CDG to the Kalamalka Starfish Society for $9,000 of the $12,000 to buy groceries.
  • Approve a CDG to North Okanagan Valley Gleaners for $6,750 to purchase a "professional quality commercial grade upholstery cleaner/steamer/vacuum."
  • Approve a CDG to School District 22 for $4,000 of the $10,000 requested to fund the Voices of Vernon World Cafe costs. 
  • Approve a CDG to The Good Food Box Society of the North Okanagan for $4,800 of the $13,200 requested to support families in the prenatal program for six months.
  • Approve a CDG to Turning Points Collaborative Society for $1,715 of $15,000 to fund a case management system.
  • Approve a CDG to the Vernon Community Board Society for $400 to use for operation expenses. 
  • Approve a CDG to the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club for $1,635 to cover three days of rental fees for the 2024 Summer Divisionals.
  • Approve a CDG to the Vernon Paddling Centre Society for $4,500 of the $9,500 requested to support signage at Paddlewheel Park.
  • Approve a CDG to the W.L. Seaton Sonics football team for $13,000 of the $20,000 to purchase protective equipment.
