Vernon RCMP are investigating what they describe as a bizarre crime at a local financial institution.
At about 2 a.m. Wednesday, a large front loader drove up to the exterior automated teller machine at the Interior Credit Union on 43rd Avenue and knocked the machine over.
"The unknown suspect then fled the scene," said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.
"The ATM was damaged, but no access was gained to the contents."
Police eventually located the abandoned loader in a parking lot on 41st Avenue.
"The investigation determined it had been stolen earlier in the morning from a business on Kalamalka Lake Road. It suffered only minor damage in this incident," said Noseworthy.
The incident is under investigation and anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
