Vernon’s Valley Medical Laboratories on 30th Avenue has announced they are no longer taking appointments for lab work but, as of Wednesday, June 1, the downtown patient service centre will transition to a walk-in patient service centre.

Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

“Due to the ongoing shortage of staffing in the North Okanagan, along with the high demand for access to laboratory collection services we will temporarily suspend our appointment system at the downtown Vernon location,” reads a notice in the lab office.

“This temporary change will allow us at Valley Medical Laboratories to serve a greater number of patients in the North Okanagan.”

The lab in Vernon’s north end, at the Railway Plaza, is taking walk-in patients Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Valley Medical Laboratories says the changes “will increase patient throughput and decrease wait times for walk-in patients.”

Interior Health continues to offer appointment services.
