Vernon Fire Rescue Services investigators were back on-scene Monday trying to find the cause of a structure fire that significantly damaged a garage and exterior wall at a home in the 5400 block of Bella Vista Road.

Fire crews received the call from the homeowners shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.

“When the guys got there, the fire was burning rapidly on the east side of the home,” said deputy fire chief Jack Blair.

“The fire got into the soffit area and the attic above the garage. The guys were able to knock it down right away.”

The fire crews were able to get into the home, tear down the ceiling and battle the blaze in the garage.

The two occupants of the home were not injured and got out safely.

Investigators believe the fire started around some garbage cans located around an exterior wall, and were going back in daylight to see what may have triggered the blaze.
