Vernon Fire Rescue Services say smoke on the east side of Kalamalka Lake

Smoke that was seen on the east side of Kalamalka Lake over the weekend was from controlled slash burns.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) crews were alerted to the smoke, and sent out a release through the City of Vernon stating they are aware of controlled slash burns on the east side of Kalamalka Lake across from Kekuli Bay.

The burns consisted of between eight and 10 large piles for the purpose of land clearing, and are being privately conducted with a license from the province.

Work was expected to be completed by Sunday.
