A thunderstorm Tuesday night had Vernon firefighters providing a quick response.
Reports came just before 8 p.m. of a grass fire on Joharon Road, off of Bella Vista Road.
“When the storm came through, there were a few lightning bolts around and one hit a grassy area,” said Jack Blair, deputy fire chief.
Neighbours noticed the blaze and immediately called the fire department, which soon arrived on scene.
“They soaked it down good,” said Blair.
“That north side of Tronson Road and Bella Vista Road is a bit of weather zone and we’ve had lightning strikes there before.”
While this blaze was lightning caused, there is still a concern that residents may accidentally cause fires through a discarded cigarette or other means.
“It’s still very dry out there,” said Blair of current conditions.
“We need people to use extreme caution.”
