A lockdown at a Vernon high school has been lifted.

A Vernon Secondary School neighbour called the school Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. to report an individual entering the school with what appeared to be a weapon.

The school immediately went to lockdown and the RCMP responded quickly.

After searching the building a student with an air soft pistol was located and is currently being interviewed by the RCMP.

The lockdown was lifted at 9:50 a.m.

The RCMP and the School District Safe Schools’ Team will continue to investigate the situation.

"At no time was any student or staff member in danger and the District Threat Assessment Protocol was effectively followed," reads a press release from the Vernon School District.

The district appreciates the quick and effective response from the RCMP.
