More money will be rolling into the City of Vernon for tourism marketing.

The city has received provincial approval to increase the hotel room tax from two to three per cent.

“The change in tax will occur Jan. 1 and will be in place until Dec. 31, 2022,” said Kevin Poole, economic development manager.

The city will receive 2.8 per cent of the three per cent tax and the remaining 0.2 per cent will go towards the provincial tourism events program.

“All of the funds generated are used for tourism marketing, programs and projects,” said Poole, adding that the additional $300,000 annually will assist the city in its marketing efforts.
