Lumby is the latest community to opt out of a referendum for a new active living centre in Vernon.
The Village council has informed Vernon that is has decided not to participate in the Oct. 15, 2022 vote and will not be a participant in a new recreation agreement.
“Council was interested in further discussion pertaining to joining after referendum through a fee for service agreement; although since there are no financial impacts related to what this looks like, the discussion was quite short,” Lumby chief administrative officer Tom Kadla said.
Lumby’s decision follows that of Coldstream and Areas B and C, which recently gave Vernon notice that they too are not interested in being involved.
Vernon has plans to construct a new facility at the former Kin Race track grounds, which could cost upwards of $121 million.
