Vernon motorist faces impaired charge

Driving with a blown tire was the start of problems for a Vernon man Thursday.

Driving with a blown tire was the start of problems for a Vernon man Thursday.

Shortly before 9 p.m., concerned citizens called police to report a black Ford truck driving eastbound on Kalamalka Road, near Quirk Road in Coldstream, had a blown tire, and the truck was being driven very erratically.

“Two of our officers located the vehicle just as it stopped at the intersection of Kalamalka Road and Highway 6,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The male driver and lone occupant showed gross symptoms of intoxication and was arrested for impaired driving.”

The 37-year old driver was taken to the Vernon detachment where he provided samples of his breath that exceeded four times the legal limit

When the truck was stopped, the rim that the tire had blown off was worn flat, and Molendyk said there was no longer any groove left that would hold a tire.

“This suspect vehicle had been reported twice earlier in the day for possible impaired driving complaints.”

The driver is expected to appear in court Aug. 2.
