There were unexpected surprises inside and outside of Vernon Secondary School for teachers and support staff Monday, May 16.

Teachers and staff arrived on a professional development day to find on the grass adjacent to the staff parking lot, a large sign from Celebration Signs that read “We (Heart) Our Teachers and Staff.”

Inside were gift baskets for the instructors and staff containing goodies from Cotton’s Chocolates and Monkeys Jewels custom engraving in Vernon. Each person received a bag of goodies and a wooden heart. More than 90 gifts were handed out.

The gestures were courtesy of the school’s Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).

“The parents of VSS students want to express their immense gratitude to all the teachers and staff of the school who have poured themselves into the students over the past two years under extra stress and pressure,” said Randy Hamm, PAC president.

The gifts and signs were donated by either past parents of VSS students and the parent of an incoming Grade 8 student in September.
