A 74-year-old Vernon man was sent to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Christmas Eve morning with minor injuries after being struck by a car downtown.

The man was in the crosswalk at the intersection of 30th Avenue and Alexis Park Drive when he was clipped by a Ford Focus turning left onto 30th Avenue.

“The driver of the car was turning left on a green light and stated he didn’t see the man at first,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“When he did see the pedestrian, he tried to swerve to avoid him but clipped him with the left-front of the vehicle.”

The pedestrian was taken to hospital but was expected to be released later that day.

No charges were laid against the driver.
