Vernon RCMP on hunt for suspected purse thief

Incident happened at 5 p.m. Saturday at downtown Vernon Safeway; police investigating break-ins at home and business

Vernon RCMP would like some information about an alleged purse thief. The incident happened at the downtown Vernon Safeway at around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Vernon RCMP are on the lookout for a purse thief.

An elderly woman had her purse stolen from the downtown Safeway while she was shopping at approximately 5p.m. Saturday.

“The alleged purse thief was wearing a large beige jacket, and had long brown hair,” said Vernon RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

Police released a surveillance photo of the person believed responsible for the theft.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Vernon RCMP are also investigating two break-ins.

—- Police responded to a commercial alarm Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 3:30 a.m. at Sally Beauty Supply on 24th Street.

“An unknown person or persons had forced entry to the business and stolen approximately $4,000 worth of hair extensions,” said Noseworthy.

—-Sometime between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, a residence in the 2300 block of 36th Avenue was broken into through a locked window.

A Nintendo Wii and several games were stolen.
