The City of Vernon is reviewing budget suggestions received from residents online.

An effort to engage residents in  Vernon’s budget process is being called a success.

A citizen budget survey was available online from Sept. 19 to Oct. 14 and it received 1,181 visitors, with 258 responses.

“I was pleased with the participation,” said Coun. Catherine Lord.

Participants were asked a variety of questions, including whether they would increase, decrease or maintain funding for services.

Mayor Akbal Mund says the survey shows residents aren’t afraid of higher taxes.

“They will pay a little bit more for increased services,” he said.

The information gathered during the survey will now be considered by council.

The online survey was an attempt to involve more residents as previous input sessions only attract a handful of people.

“I’m really thrilled with this. It really reaches out into the community,” said Coun. Scott Anderson.
