Vernon road temporarily closed after hydrant break

The road is closed on 28th Avenue from 29th Street to 28th Street

UPDATE: 3:10 P.M. THURSDAY, JAN. 2:

The City of Vernon has issued a released stating 28th Street is reduced to northbound traffic only due to necessary repairs to a water line after a fire hydrant on 28th Avenue and 28th Street was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning.

City of Vernon crews are working in the area and the road is expected to be closed to southbound traffic until Friday (January 3rd) morning. Please obey posted signs in the area.

A downtown Vernon road is temporarily closed today (Thursday).

A fire hydrant on 28th Avenue and 28th Street was struck by a vehicle at about 6:30 am. and city crews had the  hydrant turned off by 7:30 a.m.

“Currently, crews are assessing the repair required,” said Shirley Koenig, Shirley Koenig, director of operation services.

“The road is closed on 28th Avenue from 29th Street to 28th Street and is expected to reopen at around 11 a.m. today.”
