The City of Vernon is moving ahead with changes to transit routes.

Major changes are coming to Vernon's transit system.

Fifty-six bus stops are being removed and five others are being relocated.

“Route efficiencies are routinely reviewed as part of transit system operations,” said Amanda Watson, transportation manager.

“During these reviews, schedule reliability is a key consideration. Routes that have too many stops or have stops that are too close together means the bus spends an increased time stopping and starting thereby affecting its efficiency and ability to stay on schedule.”

Watson says city staff have been working with the transit service operators to review spacing and locations of the 300 existing bus stops on certain routes to improve the reliability of the system as a whole.

Route 8 remains unchanged.
