Vernon vacancy rate increases, but rents still expensive

Impact on families a continuing concern for a Vernon city councillor

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports Vernon’s apartment vacancy rate went from 6.3 to 7.7 per cent from April 2012 to April 2013.

But the average monthly rent has gone from $709 to $714, and that is a concern for a city politician.

“It’s still a challenge for people with limited resources to find suitable accommodations,” said Coun. Juliette Cunningham.
