UPDATE: Vernon woman’s death treated as homicide

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP are treating the death of a woman in an Okanagan Landing apartment as a homicide.

Officers responded to a report of an assault in a unit in the 7300 block of Okanagan Landing Road shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say upon attendance, they located an injured 49-year-old woman who was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She later died of her injuries and police are treating her death as a homicide.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the residence in connection with the incident. Police say the victim and suspect knew each other.

Angelo Gabriel Monfort made a first appearance in Provincial Court in Vernon Wednesday, charged with second-degree murder. He was remanded in custody pending his next scheduled court appearance July 10.
