Vernon’s population climbs in 2015

The community's growth was 3.4 per cent, making it the fifth fastest growing community

B.C. Stats has listed Vernon as one of the fastest growing communities in the province.

The 2015 estimates show Vernon’s growth was 3.4 per cent, making it the fifth fastest growing community among those cities with a population of 25,000 or greater (Vernon’s population is 40,497).

The other four cities were Langford (7.2 per cent), West Kelowna (5.3 per cent), Chilliwack (4.8 per cent) and Langley (3.5 per cent).

“Last year was a very strong year for development in Vernon, which was led by the residential and commercial sectors,” said Kevin Poole, economic development manager.

“As a result, we are not surprised to see such strong population growth in Vernon.Last year marks the first time in several years that Vernon’s growth rate has been substantially higher than that of the province as whole which was estimated at one per cent.”
