After a delay back in early May, the repainting of Vernon’s rainbow crosswalk on 30th Avenue will finally be taking place.
Crews will be out to complete the work on Thursday, June 8.
As part of the work, a temporary detour will be required on 30th Avenue, between 33rd and 34th Street, while crews apply the new crosswalk markings.
The road will be closed to through traffic on 30th Avenue on Thursday, June 8, between 6 a.m and 1 p.m.
While initially scheduled for May 11, issues regarding the asphalt were found, according to the city.
“After we began removing the existing marking, we found the asphalt surface was not in a condition that would allow for a successful re-application,” said Ian Adkins, manager of roads, drainage and airport. “The surface will need to be replaced under the crosswalk before new markings can be re-applied”.
The city apologizes for any inconvenience this disruption may cause and appreciates everyone’s cooperation.
