A home in Parker Cove was destroyed by a violent fire early this morning in Vernon.

John Colville called 911 after he saw the fire about 12:45 a.m.

Colville was alerted to the blaze by his barking dog and looked out the window after hearing several large bangs.

At first he thought the bright light was his outdoor sensor light, but he quickly realized his neighbour’s house was ablaze.

Colville said the home was full engulfed before fire crews arrived.

Fortunately, the residents and pets were not home at the time of the incident and there were no injuries.

Colville said fire crews managed to control the blaze before it spread to an adjacent home.

Okanagan Indian Band Fire Chief Dave Lawrence said the family that owned the home was at their other home in the Shuswap at the time of the fire, and that the house that burned was up for sale.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Lawrence, and Colville said the home is an entire loss.
