Fires, a helicopter rescue and a car crash — SilverStar Mountain was filled with action this past Saturday as part of a emergency services demonstration.

First responders showed off their skills at the day-long event that included a rope rescue, a heli-winch rescue and a lift evacuation.

Several different groups were involved with the event from the RCMP, Vernon Search and Rescue, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, Shuswap Search & Rescue, SilverStar Ski Patrol, FACTS First Aid, St. John’s Ambulance, to the BC Dragoons.

Information booths were set up around the mountain for the public to learn more about what emergency services teams do and the equipment they use in their work.

Emergency Services Day is in support of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, and $20 from every full-day adult alpine lift ticket sold on Saturday went to support VJHF.
