The family of a Coldstream woman struck and killed by a motorist in 2010 as she walked to work will hold a candlelight service Saturday to help their healing process.
Kiera-Leigh Carlson was walking from her Coldstream home at night to her job at a downtown Vernon nightclub on April 30, 2010 when police report she was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 6 and Aberdeen Road.
When she didn’t show up for work, a search for Carlson began. Her body was found the next morning, around 6 a.m., next to the North Okanagan Regional District office.
She had been walking north on the west shoulder of Aberdeen Road – the proper side of the road for a pedestrian – when she was struck from behind by a northbound vehicle.
The service will start with the placing of candles around 8:30 p.m., followed by a minute of silence at 8:50 p.m., and by a prayer.
“The 8:50 time is significant as that’s around the time she was hit,” said Carlson’s father, Len.
“We’re asking anybody that wants to come to show up early. We’ll have candles available for those who want to light one.”
People attending the vigil are asked to park in the NORD parking lot, and not on the highway or along Aberdeen Road.
