Vernon RCMP are dealing with a large number of thefts of items from vehicles in different areas of the city.

In the last 10 days, police are averaging between three and four complaints per day about items being stolen from vehicles.

“There’s been a real rash of these thefts in the last couple of weeks,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson.

Sometimes, the thefts are easy for the criminals.

In one case, a vehicle was left unlocked and the thief or thieves helped themselves to a pair of iPods.

In another instance, the back window of a vehicle was broken in the parking lot of a Vernon hotel and a bicycle was stolen.

“The thefts are another reminder to motorists to please not leave anything in their vehicles,” said Molendyk.

“People need to be reminded that there are people looking for things. Keep valuables locked up out of sight.”

Molendyk added that the thefts are happening in all parts of Greater Vernon, from hotel parking lots to the downtown core to area beach parking lots.
